Silverlight Mac Uninstall/reinstall issue

Question
-
I am currently running lion on my imac. The other day I was trying to use netflix and silverlight said there was a problem and it needed to be uninstalled/reinstalled. I followed the instructions for how to uninstall it. I went to reinstall and it says there is an error because silverlight is already on the machine. I have emptied my trash, restarted, and searched for every silverlight file on my mac; only to come up with nothing. I have called microsoft and they said to ask my question here. I am very frustrated at this point.

I've had the same problem for over a week. I've done several things so I'm not exactly sure what solved the problem and removed the "newer version" that was blocking the reinstall of silverlight, but after trying everything suggested on these forums here's what worked for me:
1. Go to Library/Receipts. (for some reason spotlight does not pick up on this folder, which is why I think this is causing the problem)
2. Delete all silverlight files by moving to Trash. (there was only one in mine)
3. Empty Trash.
4. Close all web browsers. (I didn't restart this time)
5. Install Silverlight in about two seconds.
6. Grab a beer to soothe the monster headache that came from dealing with this stupid thing.
All week I have been doing the following to no avail, but it might be a combination of the above and some of the following:
1. Go to Library/Internet Plug-ins and delete all silverlight files.
2. Use spotlight to find any other silverlight files and delete, keeping in mind there are com.microsoft...silverlight and WPFe.com files which are posted in more detail in other parts of this forum.
3. I downloaded an app called EasyFind for free to search for any invisible files that might have silverlight in them and found a few more.
4. Restart computer, close all browsers etc.

hi,
The issue I'm having is when I download the install package for SL4, and go to install it, my Mac tells me that a newer version of the software already exists on my machine. However, I know this not to be true since I've deleted everything Silverlight and Microsoft related.

I found a folder in the Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Silverlight and I removed that folder, then it worked for me.

Silverlight Netflix MAC OS X Issue Fix.
OK I had the same issue over the weekend and tried every possible solution avail over the net to delete the "supposedly” old version of Silverlight with no luck. Followed all the instruction from Netflix and installed Silverlight and than Silverlight tells me “newer version of Silverlight is already installed on disk” so obviously you have no way to continue install. Must have installed and deleted Silverlight about 20 times before contacting Netflix who told me to contact Microsoft since they gave up and I had already done every thing they suggested and advised on Netflix Site. Called 866 234 6020 who contacted me with Microsoft Elite Tech Support. He took over my PC and said he will give me free tech support since Silverlight Issue is a known issue. This dude in India spent 95 minutes to fix the issue with no luck. He did same stuff I had already tried. After 95 min he gave up and referred me to their level Three tech support Ninja Division who is suppose to call me tomorrow.
So I go and delete Silverlight again and this time went to a different site who would also need Silverlight Internet Plug in so I went to my crappy ISP Comcast website to watch some videos. Sure enough that site also advised me to install Silver light. I installed it from their site and BOOM it started watching video. Went back to Netflix and BOOM Netflix is working as it used to.
So in my humble opinion there is a conflict between the link Netflix is sending us to Silverlight website which obviously has a retarded version of Silverlight. This issue is not browser related.
Happy Netflxing.
