  • Short Answer:

No.  You can not delete entered work items nor can you delete work-item types (until V2 from what I have read).

  •  Since VSTS2008 it is now possible to destroy a work item type using the TFPT.exe command. I mention this here now because this topic is number 1 or 2 on MSDN when I searched for the answer to this question earlier on today. Hopefully putting the answer here will help future searchers!

Check your Team Foundation Power Tools documentation for more details. The command is:

    tfpt destroywitd /server:tfsservername /project:projname /workitemtype:witdname [/noprompt]

    Documentation is usually installed at:
    %Program Files%\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2008 Power Tools\TeamFoundationPowertool.doc

This method worked on my system (TFS2010). Thanks.

  • Hi guys,

I just want to make a point about it, if you have Team Projects or WorkitemTypename with blanks between words we must put the project name or Workitem type name in quotes:

    like this:

witadmin destroywitd /collection:http://a-srv26:8080/tfs /p:"Project Name" /n:"Workitem Type Name"

I know that's not common or even good practise to create a Project name with separate names but if you face somenthing like this as I did, just make sure.

    tks for the help!
