Unable to uninstall spotify app and doesn't show in "Add or remove programs" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Spotify app when downloaded from spotify's website at " https://www.spotify.com/us/download/windows/ " and installing it, does not show up on "Add or remove programs" option in Windows. Therefore, I have no way of uninstalling the app.

The behavior is seen with both the "Microsoft Store version" and the regular version. Can you please let me know when such behavior occurs and what specific conditions need to be met to see the app under "Add or remove programs"?

The install of Spotify is carried out through a Visual Studio Installer. If installed by doubling clicking on the executable, I see spotify on "add or remove programs". What is the difference in installation context between these two scenarios?

  • Hi Vjay_89,

    a) To disable Spotify to start automatically, we can do in two ways.
        1) Disable it in Startup:
[Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Esc] > (Task Manager) tab[Startup] > select Spotify and [Disable]
        2) Disable in Spotify itself:
[Edit] > [Preferences] > [Show Advanced Settings]
            > (scroll to [Startup and Windows Behaviour] > [Open Spotify automatically ...] > [No]

    b) about the difference in installation:
Spotify installed via Microsoft Store is not a legacy application. So, it does not appear in "Add or remove programs". It is UWP (Univarsal Windows Platform) application, instead of a legacy application.
But you can uninstall it via [Windows Apps].
[Settings] > [Apps] > [Apps & features] > Right-Click on Spotify and [Uninstall]
On the other hand, Spotify installed via a legacy installation can be uninstalled in "Add or remove programs".
