RDP from Windows 7 to Windows 2008 R2 - Security layer issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    I'm having following issue: I have Windows 7 machine - Professional edition, x64 . And I have multiple Windows 2008 R2 servers.

I have valid domain credentials. When I want to connect(via RDP - mstsc /v:IP ) from Windows 7 machine to any of those W2k8 servers, I will receive following error: "The logon attempt failed." . Password is 100% correct.

After a while I've found that when I on that w2k8 server change RDP "Security layer" to "RDP Security Layer", then connection is possible.
When I put it back to auto negotiate it's not working, so I assume when there is auto negotiate enabled, then it will automatically select SSL (TLS 1.0) and this will fail.

Where I can check what is exactly error or how can I force MSTSC client to auto-negotiate to "RDP Security Layer" version?

    Thank you.
