  • Question

  • No one can deny, Web 4 is hanging on with a vengeance. HTML5 that was ignored a year ago is displaying now. This has nothing to do with the download, and everything to do with Windows platform migration, HTML5/CSS3 uptake (whatever that means) for simple things like finally displaying content previously lost in transitions and transforms. Even if the animation is still missing, the primal object and layout are now observed.

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/xweb/archive/2010/10/06/add-html5-support-to-expression-web-4.aspx

Still, is the old HTML5 Add-in project dead? Is that Add-in no longer available for download being meshed into Windows Web technolog? Is there a similar sort of Add-in available for HTML5/CSS3 elsewhere?

Tell you why all the questions. I am developing HTML Viewport web design with CSS-Play. Things like Page Grid layout is outside Web 4 at time of publishing. Notepad steps in. Do we wait another year and hope for the same 'uptake' integration for viewport? No that "viewport per se hasn't been aglow for the last sixty years. But it's a new code feature that says "buzz-off" to 'responsive', for all those pure coders out there. Mind you, for now heavily scripted 3D printing and upcoming projection screens stress the importance for Windows platform reaching out some more - before viewport buries Web4 permanently. Perhaps.

But then, some obscure VB or Web Matrix something somewhere might fix Web4 viewport coding previews right now. Our development would like that.

  • I don't know what "HTML Viewport" means (did you mean Design View?), or what "Page Grid Layout is outside of EW4 at time of publishing" means (publishing is Ftp'ing: there is no "outside" of anything).

The rest of that paragraph (and much of the first paragraph) I suspect is unintelligible to anyone but yourself: no context, no definitions.

Regardless: it doesn't matter.  You seem (in a strange and vague way) to be asking if something more will be coming for EW.  It won't.

EW has been discontinued and EW4 (the free downloadable version) is the last version.

It's also possible (again, it's hard to tell) that you think Design View in EW will behave like a browser.  It won't.  Preview in browser is for that, and if you are using any tricky CSS, you need a browser.

  • FYI, that page is really bad for mobile devices. If you thought that replaced other methods used correctly, it does not.

  • Kathy: The OP is WOW/Mark Cade, etc., with a new name. Hence the obtuse post.

A horse walks into a bar. The bartender asks "Why the long face?"
"Because I was born into servitude and when I die my hooves will be used to make glue."
It was at this point that the bartender realized he would not be getting a tip.

  • Viewport = browser window.

That said, the OP's post is a waste of electrons, as usual.

  • If Viewport = Browser window, which is what I would assume, my reply is on point: there is no  EW "integration for viewport", nor could there be since EW is not a browser, so the term makes no sense in that context.

If the poster is WOW: that explains the total mishmash, and the failure to remember that EW development has concluded.
