Windows Server 2008 Server Core and the .NET Framework RRS feed

  • Question

  • I heard at a Windows Server 2008 event at Microsoft that Server Core has not been tested with the CLR and the .NET Framework. When is this testing going to be completed?

What about the 64-bit CLR? Has that not been tested with Server Core either?

    Thanks.

  • It's not a matter of testing; Server Core does not ship with some components necessary to run the .NET framework.  For example, .NET has a dependency on the shell (shell32.dll) and on Internet Explorer, which are not present on the Server Core.

Since it's not a matter of testing, it will take a while, IMHO.
