    .NET plat form Independent or Dependent ?

  • .Net is a marketing name, there are many different products under it. Some of them have other implementations that run on other platforms, some don't. 

    In Microsoft product support terms, other platforms are not supported. Which means if you have trouble running .Net in other implementations, you go to the provider of .Net implementation, instead of Microsoft.

  • As far as I know, there's the .NET framework, which is Windows family only.

    But then there's MONO, which is an open source implementation of the .NET framework for other platforms (Linux, OSX, Android, console systems, etc.)
