Access CIFS share on host from PDA through USB/cradle connection RRS feed

  • Question

  • Need to transfer files between Linux host (embedded system) and WM6 device. Would like to use the standard USB/ActiveSync cable. When WM6 device is connected i get a private LAN between the two devices. Ping works.

    Now the problem:

I would like to be able to connect to a CIFS fileshare on the Linux box from the WM6 device but the file explorer does not recognize the private network.

WM file explorer open "//x.x.x.x/share" always give "cannot connect with current connection"

WM IE open "http:/x.x.x.x" always give "cannot connect with current connection"

Is this by design or am i missing something?

  • Is it WM 6 Standard (AKA SmartPhone) device? AFAIK these don't have support SMB shares (while WM 6 Pro AFAIK does). There also might be authentication issues and private network over USB you're getting might have issues (in fact I'm surprised you get it at all).

You might want to verify using Windows host with file share over network such as Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
