SQL Server new login for group RRS feed

  • Question

  • On SQL Server I created one user group as Myproject_Admin and I added only admin users to this group.

Now I wan to add SQL login for this group but I not able to select group Myproject_Admin while creating new login.

Is it possible to create new login for a user group?

    I use SQL Server 2008 R2.

    Thank you for your answer.

  • Hi

Try to include the name of the domain with a backslash before the name of your group in the New Login dialog in SSMS (or the CREATE LOGIN command if you are doing it that way)

    e.g.

    MYDOMAIN\Myproject_Admin

    instead of just

    Myproject_Admin

  • If you are talking about SQL auth users, then you can't. SQL auth users will be individual users, however, you can group them in database level not server level.

If you can use windows auth, the you can group your users in ADS (active directory services), and permission to the windows group in SQL server.
