SSIS on SQL Server VM RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

We are using SQL Datawarehouse on Azure.

In the process we have chose SQL Server VM Entprise edition to run SSIS.

But we see that no SSIS has been installed on the VM.

Do we need to install SSIS separately? Or is there any other version of SQL Server VM where we can SSIS along with it.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Venkatesh

I believe that the components are installed but you will have to set up the catalog yourself.

you can follow this MSDN guide on how to set it up.

I'm also not sure that you would need enterprise as very few of the features in SSIS enterprise would be usable against the azure data warehouse, you may be able to get away with standard edition which will be a lot cheaper to run.

You should also note that SSIS is not the preferred method for loading large volumes of data into azure data warehouse see ( )

It will work but does not benefit from parallel loads like PolyBase does.

  • Thank you Michael for the information.

As per the below thread we need to install SSIS separately.

As we already have SSIS packages on premise environment we go with SSIS for now and understand how to work with Polybase.

If you have any additional information regarding SSIS on Azure VM, please let us know.
