none
2 NICs on Windows 2003 SBS R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi:

    I nead to work with  2 nics one for internal use 192.168.x.x and another one for external use 90.42.x.x. Each time that I try to activate the second card with the external ip, my WEB application stop working ( Bad Request error message).

    How do I setup these cards so internal LAN always use the NIC with internel IP.

    I tried using route command, but i cannot get it to work smoothly. I tried:  route add 192.168.x.x mask 255.255.255.255 192.168.y.y

    x= web application IP
    y= nic internal IP

    My web application stop responding...How can I delete this route without restarting server?

    nic 1:

    ip:192.168.x.x
    mask:255.255.255.0
    gw:192.168.168.1

    nic 2:

    ip: 90.42.x.x
    maks: 255.255.255.245
    gw.90.42.x.1

  • Hi, since 192.168 is not routable and you want the app to always use the the internal NIC1 remove the g/w. Leave it blank and windows will always go out on the interface without a gateway first.

    Addionally, make sure your edge server can resolve your A/V edge external URL(ex. avedge.domain.com) to publc ip.

    Hope this helps
