Automatic Inventory Update RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am planning to develop an application, in Microsoft Access 2013, for a small store which sells a variety of items. I will like to update the sock automatically when items are bought and sold. How could this be done?

  • Hi Gordon,

Have a look at Inventory Control on Allen Browne's website.

    Hope it helps...

  • The basic principle is that the current stock level per item is the sum of all stock acquisitions (purchase orders) of the item less the sum of all stock disposals (sales orders and other disposals).   You might like to take a look at Inventory.zip in my public databases folder at:

Note that if you are using an earlier version of Access you might find that the colour of some form objects such as buttons shows incorrectly and you will need to amend the form design accordingly.

If you have difficulty opening the link copy its text (NB, not the link location) and paste it into your browser's address bar.

This little demo file illustrates some of the basic mechanisms for inventory management and includes, in addition to sales and acquisitions of stock,  provision for non-sale disposals of stock and periodic stock takes.
