Key command shortcuts for common touch tasks in Windows 8?

    Question

  • Hi, noticed during the keynote and in the docs that everything can be accomplished with key combos as well as touch. I'm using my WACOM Pen and Touch to emulate touch, so not all the functions are there. Is there a list of key commands available anywhere (it's not in the docs). For example, if I'm on the Start screen, is there a key command to bring up search?

Second question - how do I change my Start screen background? I know you guys like that green, but it's just not my thing.

  • Windows Key: Toggle between the current application and the Start view (and back)

Windows Key + F: File search pane

Windows Key + W: Settings search pane

Windows Key + I: A 'quick settings' pane

Windows Key + P: A 'projector settings' pane

Windows Key + C: Show the Start menu popup and the current time/wireless status

Start typing in the Start view to begin searching for applications.

  • Many thanks. I panicked and ctrl+alt+del out of my first app I tried.

  • Those keyboard shortcuts in the link are useful.  Does anyone know how to use the "Snap" feature to get side by side windows without using touch?

    Try activating and using  Mousekeys ?  (Alt+Shift+NumLock)   ; )

Oh.  Just "without using touch"?   Same as W7.   Drag a window to the left and let your mouse pointer pass the display edge.  Wait for the Preview.  Then release.
