What is the use of Local Storage present in the VM RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows Azure provides different kinds of VMs and each VM has its own size of local storage. What is this local storage used for????

Is it used to cache the blobs that are currently needed for the computation. For example, if a Worker role (VM ) requests a blob, then the requested blob is transferred to the local storage provided by the VM. The worker role access the blob present in its local storage.

Can anyone provide a better explanation for the use of the local storage....

  • The purpose of local storage is to provide writable storage space on each instance. One use is to host the read cache for Azure Drive. However, you can get the path to the root directory and use it for any purpose you like. Note that unless you configure it to survive a recycle any data on local storage will be lost following a recycle. Indeed, there is no guarantee that the space is durable. I did a post showing how to use local storage that you might find useful.
