SPACE SAVING ON MY HARD DRIVE RRS feed

  • Question

  • I apologise if this has been asked before but I have just spent 30 minutes TOTALLY bemused surfing all the possible Windows forums but it is all SO complicated (at least for a 76 year old!).  I am trying to regain some memeory space on my hard drive and I have noticed that I have 150 "Uninstall" files on the root of my Windows folder.  They seem to vary from 3/4 of a Mb to 10Mb or over.  Can anyone tell me if these subfolders are essential or have they done their tasks and can now be deleted?

  • How unhelpful!  What on earth are "un-topics"?  I cannot find the word in my dictionaries!

If I am in the wrong forum why not point me to the right one?

  • Brian,

My guess, the uninstall files are created for the system restore checkpoint or to remove the applications you may have installed on top of your OEM (Original equipment manufacturer).  But I could not find any "uninstall" files in my windows folder, so I could be totally wrong about my hypothesis above.

The forums below are visited by operating system engineers that could help you...

if you are using Windows XP try this forum http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=2010&SiteID=17

or Windows Vista try this forum http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1992&SiteID=17

Although there is no general forum for windows xp or vista, the Service Pack forums I have listed above may provide the help you need...  Make sure you provide full name of some of the files and their size in the new post for people to provide proper answers.

    Hope this helps.
