SharePoint and MIME types from PageViewer Webpart. f4v files.. windows cannot open this file RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have about 20 f4v files (these are video swf like files).  As a test I copied them to a folder, pointed a new iis site to them, added  a video mime type to iis and I am able to play them from web browser url.

I'm trying to do the same from sharePoint though a  page viewer webpart. I've modified the iis website for the sharePoint site to have mime type for F4V and created a page viewer webpart pointing to a file share with the files. The webpart lists the  files but when I click on them I get cannot open this file in IE. Says windows cannot open this file

  • What MIME type did you put in IIS?  If you're getting a 404 (check the IIS logs), that would indicate the MIME type is not correct.  Once you're no longer getting 404s, you'll need to perform this as well: http://sharepoint.nauplius.net/2011/06/browser-file-handling-and-avoiding.html
