MSMQ feature failing to install on Windows Server 2019 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place but the MSMQ feature will not install on Server 2019 with our Group Policy applied.

It will install (with our Group Policy applied) on Server 2012 and 2016. However, fails on 2019 (all patched to latest)

It's possible that it is something in our policy that Server 2019 doesn't like, but unsure what!

The errors in the CBS log are along the lines of:

Installer: MSMQ Workgroup Online Install Binary Nae: cmiadapter.dll ErrorCode: 8007041d Phase: 38 Mode: Install (first install) Component: Microsoft-Windows-msmq-messagingcoreservice

    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • After much testing I found that the following group policy setting was preventing MSMQ from being installed and running correctly.

Untrusted Font Blocking (under \System\Mitigation Options in the Administrative Templates section of Group Policy was set to "Block untrusted fonts and log events."

To get MSMQ feature installed on Server 2019 you will need to either:

    • Do not block untrusted fonts
    • Log events without blocking untrusted fonts

Relatively sure this is a bug in server 2019 and MSMQ.
