Symptoms
Microsoft Office Project 2007 automatically creates a resource calendar (resource calendar: A calendar that specifies working and nonworking time for an individual resource. A resource calendar differs from a base calendar, which specifies working and nonworking time for more than one resource.) (based on the Standard calendar) for each resource (resources: The people, equipment, and material that are used to complete tasks in a project.). If you create a new base calendar (base calendar: A calendar that can be used as a project and task calendar that specifies default working and nonworking time for a set of resources. Differs from a resource calendar, which specifies working and nonworking time for an individual resource.) for a resource and modify working time (working time: Hours designated in a resource or project calendar during which work can occur.) in the new base calendar but don't base the default resource calendar on the new base calendar, it will look as though the calendar (calendar: The scheduling mechanism that determines working time for resources and tasks. Project uses four types of calendars: the base calendar, project calendar, resource calendar, and task calendar.) settings that you entered were ignored.
Note If you are using Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007 to make resource calendar changes to an enterprise resource (enterprise resources: Resources that are part of an organization's entire list of resources. Enterprise resources can be shared across projects.), you must first check out the resource.
Resolution
- To replace the resource calendar that you created with the default resource calendar (the Standard calendar), on the View menu, click Resource Sheet. Click the resource name, and in the Base Calendar field, click Standard. The resource is now scheduled using the Standard calendar instead of the one that you created for it. Click Resource Information , click Change Working Time on the General tab, and then reenter the nonworking days and times that you entered for the other calendar.
- To synchronize multiple calendars to a resource's base calendar (which you created in the Change Working Time dialog box) without replacing the calendars, on the View menu, click Resource Sheet. Click the resource name, click Resource Information , and then click Change Working Time on the General tab. In the Base calendar box, click the name of the resource calendar that you created and modified. The settings of this resource calendar are set for the default resource calendar when you use it as the base calendar.
If you need to make further changes to this resource's working time or nonworking time (nonworking time: Hours or days designated in a resource or project calendar when Project should not schedule tasks because work is not done. Nonworking time can include lunch breaks, weekends, and holidays, for example.), you can do it in either calendar, because the base calendar updates the resource calendar. If you need to use the base calendar for another resource, enter updated information in the base calendar. Further changes that you make to the default resource calendar will not show up in the base calendar.
