Resource Assignment Text fields RRS feed

  • Question

  • From the object model, I see the resource assignment supports 30 text fields. How do I edit/display them in the interface?  I tried the task usage view, but the text1-30 I add appear to be from Tasks not Assignments.

  • ColFrankFitz,

Well actually there are 30 resource assignment text fields AND 30 task assignment text fields. The resource assignment text fields can only be displayed in the Resource Usage view and the task assignment text fields can only be displayed in the Task Usage view. And of course, you must have the view expanded so it shows the assignment rows.

You might want to read this Wiki article: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/32051.ms-project-extra-fields-in-views.aspx

    Hope this helps.

  • To test, here's what I did:

    1. Create new project
    2. Add 1 resource
    3. Add 1 task
    4. Assign resource
    5. Gantt view add Text1
    6. Enter "Woody" in Text1
    7. Task Usage view
    8. Add column Text1
    9. On assignment row, enter "1100" in Text1

    1. File Save As -> Excel
    2. New Map
    3. Assignments
    4. Task Id
    5. Resource Name
    6. Work
    7. Text1

Why didn't the Text1 value for the assignment show up in the Excel file?

  • It looks like the Excel export only picks up the Resource Assignment Text1. Add a value for Text1 in the Resource Usage view and it will export. You can get to the assignment subfields in VBA code by referring to Task.Assignments(n).Text1 or Resource.Assignments(n).Text1.
