OS upgrade and SQL server 2012

    Question

  • Greetings

We have a requirement to upgrade VM running  OS Name_Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 Standard without Hyper-V to upgrade to windows 2012 std edn  .

Vm is running IIS, .net 4.0 , office 2007 and SQL server 2012.

Will sql 2012/ with .net will have any issues?

will there be any issues related to licensing and is it recommended to  run OS upgrade

  • Hello,

You should be able to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 with no issues. SQL Server 2012 does not keep track of licenses so no licensing information will be lost during the upgrade.

I honestly prefer to install from scratch the new operating system, but upgrading the operating system I a viable option.

Make sure the operating system is OK before upgrading. Run the following tool before starting the upgrade process.

    Hope this helps.
