How to access all points and distance of each on the Point Cloud? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I woud really like to work with the point cloud of the kinect but i need to work with some specsific points and i need to know their distance.

I am very interested in to find out when the floor is and i would like to build a mesh into it but first i need to find out a way to read each point and its distance.

Please let me know how to accomplish this. I am working with unity but any sample is welcome.

  • First of all, no built in way to get point cloud. The general idea is it's done using X,Y,Z where X,Y are in the range of ColorFrame Width and Height. And Z is the distance given by the appropriate pixel that corresponds to said X,Y in the DepthFrame.

The floor you can get by using FloorClipPlane. Distance from origin is usually the height from the floor from the sensor's position.

PS: If you find any sample for Unity let us know. So far I haven't found one though, and Kinect Studio's point cloud solution is closed-source.
