Problem with some users getting only Evaluation version of VS instead of 2015 Pro

    Question

  • Hello everyone.

I'm the admin of a small company, and lately I've noticed that some of our users are on a Trial version of VS (mostly the employees that have joined the company last).

The steps I took to give them access to VS 2015 pro was:

1st - Add their users in Azure Portal.
2nd- from *****.visualstuio.com I've added their accounts, and gave them access to Visual Studio (professional)

Knowing that the company has 9 Professional licenses (+5 free basics) and we currently have 9 developers.

When the said users log into VS (not all of them - 3 out of 9), they get the notification of "Trial 30 day" and when I press on "Check for an update license" it says "The best license we could find is a trial license. If you have already purchased a subscription, please add the account and ensure that account us authenticated."

I'd be very grateful if you guys can point out what I'm doing wrong.
Thank you in advance and I appreciate your time!

  • Hi Patrick.ls,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Refer to your description, your issue is more related to the license issue. Since our forum is to discuss Visual Studio WPF/SL Designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System, and Visual Studio Editor.

If you already purchased a subscription, please navigate Visual Studio Subscriptions Customer Service Center to verify the validation of your subscription account and licenses.

If you bought this license from other ways, please directly call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist, and you can get more detail information about your licenses to verify its validation.

Once those licenses be proved are valid, this issue may be relate to the VS, please open the VS community 2015 installation location, usually locates C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE and run the following commands:

devenv /resetsettings: reset the customized setting

devenv /resetuserdata: clear the old user data

Then reopen VS and sign in with the Microsoft account again, check if the same issue will happen or not.

    Best regards,

    Sara
