  • Hi Pankaj

Azure SQL database is not supported even with BizTalk 2016. Azure SQL database is a managed service, and you don't have the full blown capabilities of SQL Server with it. SQL Azure has some limitations like-

a)No support for SQL Agent (so you cannot schedule the BizTalk Agent Jobs)

    b) Only a subset of T-SQL is supported.

    c) Since it's a managed/shared environment, under heavy load, requests can get throttled/denied.

You can read more on the limitations here.

What is supported is hosting SQL Server in a dedicated IAAS Azure VM - this is as good as any SQL Server machine, the difference is just that the VM is hosted on Microsoft Azure. You will find this documented here-

SQL Server 2016 AlwaysOn Availability Groups

    Support includes:

    • Using on-premises and in Microsoft Azure IaaS virtual machines

    • Using for production workloads

    • Provides a high available (HA) solution in Microsoft Azure
