Sharepoint search return no results of external type RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've just tried my first search of an external content type but it doesn't return anything. I'm really new to this and I'm struggling to think where to start troubleshooting this. I've looked in the crawl log and it shows one top level error but when I click on it this is nothing in the list - it says

There are no URLs in the system that match your request.

How do I find the error?

  • Does it return all the values from External source in your external list ?

  • Yes it does.

Could it be something to do with the profile page being in another site.

Does the search crawl pages or the data directly?

I'm guessing it's permissions but don't know where to start. I can't see errors in the ULS log, but I'm not sure what I am looking for.

  • check this blog entry : http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ericwhite/archive/2010/04/28/searching-external-data-in-sharepoint-2010-using-business-connectivity-services.aspx . Make sure you have not missed any steps configuring the Search source.

  • That's the article I'm looking at. I can't figure out where I am going wrong or how to troubleshoot it. One thing when I set the "Set Metadata Store Permissions" to the system account I am using I tick the "Propagate Permissions" box. This doesn't stay ticked. Is this significant or just SP's flakey UI? I'm leaving it until tomorrow. I'm not really an admin so I find this stuff confusing.
