Import Export Wizard RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

In the past, in order to convert Access mdb files and upload them to a MS SQL Server for my web site, I basically only needed the Import Export Wizard that was part of the SQL Server Express package with tools .

Currently, I don't have the Express edition installed and so will need to download an edition. If all I need is the Import Export Wizard, which version with the smallest file size should I download of the latest SQL Server 2008 R 2 Express edition? I noticed that there is one edition called Management Tools with a small file size. Would this contain the Import Export Wizard? Here's the download link: http://www.microsoft.com/express/Database/default.aspx#Installation_Options

Previously, in order to install SQL Server Express, you also had to install other downloads. I can't remember which ones. Please let me know if there are other downloads that are needed as well, where to find them, f possible.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

    Kind Regards,

  • There is an Install for the Management Tools Only, this will not install the database engine.

  • Hi Glenn,

    Thanks for your reply.

    A couple of additional questions:

Is this the newest SQL Server Express edition? Or have I accidentally found the wrong program?

Do I need additional downloads for utilities or other programs that are required in order for these management tools to work (especially the Import Export Wizard)?

    Again, thanks for your help.

    Kind Regards,

  • Yes the tools linked are the newest tools, and the page that I linked to will give you links to the extra software needed to run them.
