problem connecting to Sql Azure with SSMS R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have installed the new Sql Server 2008 R2 Management Studio (November CTP).   When attempting to connect to my Sql Azure database I get the following error: Error connecting to 'tcp:xxxxxxxxx.ctp.database.windows.net'.

    Value cannot be null.
    Parameter name: context (ObjectExplorer)

I can still connect to my sql azure database using the New query dialog, as before.

I would like to add that the account I am trying to connect to was created a few months ago, so it is under an earlier CTP.  Is that relevant?  I only ask because the sql azure team blog seems to suggest that Sql Azure accounts are under a new system (http://blogs.msdn.com/ssds/default.aspx)

  • I have honestly not tried connecting to the old CTP SQL Azure database with R2 and am not sure it will work.

In addition, you really need to move your database to the current CTP since it is the one that will become the production instance.  The old CTP instance has a limited lifespan and content will not be migrated to the production service.

Please try moving your content and then trying again.

    Thanks,
