wcf and web service architecture RRS feed

  • Question

  • It is known fact that advantage of wcf over webservices is that it support various types of binding other than http protocol. But i want to know why do we have a architecture like "client" application calling a "wcf" service and a "wcf" sercice calls a "webservices" and the reverse happens in an opposite direction (from "webservices" -> "wcf" -> "client" ). I cannot understand why this type of architecture is followed like this and what is the use of this architecture.

  • Hi,

WCF is a technology framework for creating communication between applications. One form of communication is web services. WCF is a great technology for creating web services, and the SOA techniques can be used for the architecture of web service applications.

When uisng WCF to build web services you will have a web service interface on the service (WSDL, CSD, SOAP, XML over HTTP).

WCF is not lomited to only web services (peer+to+peer and other techniques can alos be used).
