partition and file group RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a partitioned table  in a database…

All of partition function are map to one file group ( Primary).

Since all of the file group will be in the same physical drive.. ( let’s say D:\).. I don’t see any reason to create multiple file group and assign each partition to appropriate file group?

I Can still do the SWITCH using only one file group..

Is it necessary to create multiple file group even though the file groups will reside in the same physical drive?

Any advice would be appreciated..  i am using sql server 2005
