Best and Quickest possible method for this. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are having a Hybrid SSIMPLE 8600 instance onprem and a 8010 cloud appliance in Azure.

We have a volume for project archives of about 40 TB on 8600 tiered volume which needs to be accessed from azure on a windows VM.

Which is the best and quickest possible method for this.

Right now what am running a backup on volumes and clone \ mount that to the cloud appliance and then access the data from the windows VM. Regardless to say the sheer size of the data is taking a lot of time 2+ weeks and counting.

This method doesn’t seems practical for a 40 TB volume.

Requesting your assistance in this with a better possible solution if any available?

  • The StorSimple Cloud Appliance is available in two models: the 8010 device (formerly known as the 1100 model) and the 8020 device. The 8010 device has a maximum capacity of 30 TB. The 8020 device, which takes advantage of Azure premium storage, has a maximum capacity of 64 TB. (In local tiers, Azure premium storage stores data on SSDs whereas standard storage stores data on HDDs.) Note that you must have an Azure premium storage account to use premium storage.

If you have an 8600, then you should probably have entitlement for an 8020 in the cloud, 8020 if that volume grows with more archive data

Kindly let us know if the above helps or you need further assistance on this issue.

  • Sumanth  so we cannot mount or clone a 40 TB volume to our existing 8010 cloud appliance?

Also is there any means other than this clone by which we can get the 8600 data out in Azure from the SSIMPLE Azure storage account.

we are already  having a Hybrid SSIMPLE 8600 instance onprem and a 8010 cloud appliance in Azure.

We have a volume for project archives of about 40 TB on 8600 tiered volume which needs to be accessed from azure on a windows VM.

Right now what am doing  is, run backup on volumes and clone \ mount that to the cloud appliance and then access the data from the windows VM.

  • You have 2 options:

    1. Use StorSimple Data Manager as described here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storsimple/storsimple-data-manager-overview

    2. Use the 8020 appliance since the 8010 cannot mount a 40TB volume.

    Hope that helps.

    thanks,
