"external component has thrown an exception" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm using VS2008 for an asp.net project. All of a sudden I received a weird error when trying to open a web page in the designer: "external component has thrown an exception" (VS2008 crashes with this message)

I checked the windows logs and found errors like: "Faulting application devenv.exe, version 9.0.30729.1, stamp 488f2b50, faulting module fpeditax.dll, version 12.0.6319.5000, stamp 484f8e30, debug? 0, fault address 0x000fdcf2."

It seems to have something to do with my master page, as only the aspx's using the master page crashes. Other pages, and even the master page itself, opens fine in the designer. I tried replacing the master page with a new blank but the error still remains. I've cleaned temp files and even the suo file but to no help. I checked the source of the master page but it looks fine.

It's worth noting that compiling the project and running it works fine. It's the asp.net designer I just can't enter. Even markup mode can be used.

This is mighty weird. Any ideas?
