Unable to create Public Folders and sub-folders. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

    One question, I have the hosting environment setup no problem.  There is one thing I have noticed, the root Public Folder gets created ok for the users, but if if a users tries to add a folder to the root through Outlook or OWA they get the following error;

    "Unable to create the folder. You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object. See the folder contact or your system administrator."  The only options in WSP are to grant 'Author' rights to a user.  Am I correct in saying that the only way a user can create a sub-folder in WSP is to do it through the control panel.

    Or is there another way of doing this apart from going into EMS > Tools > Public Folder.  selecting the root public folder for the user and granting the user 'Owner' rights to the root of thier own public folder?  Which I think in trun is not good practice, for one, knowing users, they something they don't understand and the next thing you know, they have deleted half of the acounts in the Permissions tab.

    So, if this is the case, it does seem a bit long winded to allow such a simple thing.

    Cheers,

    Gary

  • Hi Gary,

    The folders need to be created from within WSP so the WSP DB is in sync with Exchange. Also, since users are only grated 'Author' access this does not allow them to create sub folders. So yes you are correct the subfolders need to be created from WSP.

    You can add additional permissions but keep in mind that the WSP DB will not be in sync as public folders can be created outside WSP
