Maintaining Session data across subdomains RRS feed

I have a web site and there are two pages that need to be secured. The first is the logon page. The second is the payment page. My goal is to be able to keep the users at the root level of the domain (e.g. domain.com) as much as possible. Then when they need to access a secured page redirect them to a secure subdomain (e.g. secure.domain.com). Both the root and the secure hosts are being handled by the same Web Site in IIS on a Win2k3 Server.

What I'm finding though is that the session data is not available when I switch between the two. Is there a way at the server level, without having to store the session data in a database, to have the session available regardless of what the name is that is pointing to my application?

Instead of session can you use cookies?

Cookies have a property called "Domain", where you can speciify a MAIN Domain name for current cookie.
