SSRS subscriptions and ADRMS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a way to integrate AD Rights management service with Reporting services subscriptions?

We have a set of subscriptions that are run from SSRS 2012 and are rendered in excel. I am looking to restrict access to the excel file to the people that the subscription is sent to using our RMS, is there a way to do this?

  • Hi Mike,

Per my understanding that you have schedule the E-mail subscrition to send the excel report to some group user, you want restrict access to the excel file with some of the user in this group, right?

Generally, we will send email report to someone if we want to grant him the access and just not send to others who shouldn't have the permission.

By default, the E-mail delivery generates the Excel file in the E-mail rendering process. There is not programmed interface to restrict Excel documents in the E-mail delivery.

If what you want is to restric the access like read, edit and so on to the excel report and If you are an expert in coding and you can programmatically generate Excel documents with some restric access by follow steps below:

    1. Use the file shared delivery to generate the Exel documents on a shared folder.
    2. Manually setting the restric access:How to password protect or encrypt Excel spreadsheets
    3. Program a Windows service to attach the Excel documents to an E-mail, and send the mail on timer.

    For more information, please see:
File Share Delivery in Reporting Services:

By the way there is also one third part tool ”SQL-RD” which can render SSRS reports to Excel and some other format with encryption, permissions using the subscriptions, but it may not for free.

    Thank you for your understanding.
