MDF file size increasing RRS feed

  • Hi All,

    There is a database in my sharepoint DB server for thata the MDF file size is increasing. within a week it increaase around 10 GB. What is the cause of increase the MDF file size.How we can reduce it. max File size growth is set to unrestricted.Is there any impact of this max setting to increase the mdf file size.

  • Apparently, your app (Sharepoint) uses more and more data, quite simple. If you limit the max size, then the app(s) that need more space will fail with an error from SQL Server when the max is reached. Talk to sharepoint people and see if there is something strange with sharepoint, why it uses more and more space in the database...

  • Agree with Tibor, If you data growth is set in Percentage you can change it in MB 200 MB would be good to start,please dont restrict your MDF file growth as some day it will rech it limit and application will crash...so you would face unplanned downtime.

  • Check if any bulky process happen recently, Index maintenance is also one of the cause of .mdf file increase.
