Bypassing certificate errors when connecting to gsoap server using WCF and Windows.Web.HttpClient RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Everyone,

I need your thoughts in my dilemma.

I have made an application for Windows 8 Store Apps that uses WCF to connect to a gsoap web server.

However, one major limitation in the application was that it cannot bypass certificate errors because Windows 8 WCF does not allow that.

But with Windows 8.1, it introduces a new family of classes that is Windows.Web.HttpClient which supports bypassing of certificate errors through its HttpBaseProtocolFilter class.

I plan to retarget my application to Windows 8.1 to support bypassing of certificate errors using the new set of classes. However, I am having difficulty now on how to handle the web service service communication part since I cannot reuse my code that uses WCF.

I've seen a promising starting point in this thread: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsapps/en-US/41f683f2-f949-44c3-b19e-62afd77af179/windows-81-soapenvelope-with-windowswebhttphttpclient?forum=winappswithcsharp

Is this the right track to take? Or is there a way to stitch WCF and HttpBaseProtocolFilter class usage to bypass certificate errors.

Any thoughts? I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks a lot!
