Questing about NDIS miniport driver? RRS feed

  • Question

  • what is the data format that NDIS "Minport" driver receives data from NIC ( Network interface card ) ?

It then send the raw packets to Upper filter driver of Miniport and pass though intermediate driver and then filter module , Protocol binding.

I want to know what format the NIS passes the data to OS ( windows )

Thanks and 'ill Appreciate your concern.

  • Well typically it is getting a raw packet DMA'd into memory, but it doesn't have to be.   There is nothing that says the Miniport cannot be doing work on the packet before it hands it to the upper layers.  For example years ago, I worked on a system where all I/O went through one high speed link, and the network I/O was handed to the Miniport with wrappers that had to be processed.
