VS 2013 Pro with IIS Express RRS feed

  • Question

  • So Visual Studio 2013 no longer uses the built-in development web server (which our website works with fine in VS 2012). I cannot get the debug to work when it uses IIS Express. Initially it failed with port in use, now it fails with process id not available.

  • Hi,

Visual Studio Development Server has been removed from the product for Visual Studio 2013. IIS Express (introduced in Visual Studio 2010 SP1) is the development server we have for use.

    Reference:

    http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/799783/vs2013-unable-to-load-web-project-that-uses-specific-port-for-visual-studio-development-server-if-local-iis-hosts-site-on-same-port

As for the issue when you run the wen app using IIS Express, I suggest consulting on ASP.NET forum: http://forums.asp.net/  for better solution and support because VS General Question forum mainly discusses WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System and Visual Studio Editor.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

  • I did find someone else with the issue on forums.asp.net:

    http://forums.asp.net/p/1953087/5574766.aspx?p=True&t=635216652091599216&pagenum=1

    But no solutions yet.

  • Hi,

That thread has been a few days and is escalated.

Because your issue about the port in use and then the process ID not available which is get when you run web app with IIS Express is really out of support range of VS general forum, and I am not an ASP.NET expert, I suggest starting a new thread for your issue on ASP.NET forum. I think that support engineers of ASP.NET forum will provide you better and professional help.

    Thank you for your understanding.

  • I'm having the same issue.  On the linked thread the solution is not a solution either.
