Visual Web Developer Express 2013--cursor is constantly in "wait" mode during & after a Web project loads RRS feed

The prject loads in its entirety and I can make changes to my ASP.NET web pages, etc, but the cursor is constantly in busy-blue-circle form like there's some task going on in the background, except for all I cna tell, it's just VWDE running. If I edit a page and have to select text, it's with that damn blue circle cursor.

I also have VWDE2012 on the same machine, and I do not get this problem, though I seem to recall having that issue previously and fixing it, but for the life of me I can't remember what I did, lol!

Anyone else having this same problem, and/or heard of it before? Any suggestions on how to "un-busy" VWDE2013 after loading my website project?

I've already tried changing lots of different settings, even importing the settings for VWDE2012, but nothing works. I also reset all VWDE2013's settings and it's still doing this busy blue cursor thing. And driving me nuts!

    Thanks in advance...

    HI WIll,

First we should look into this issue, you could have a try create a simple new project in VWDE 2013, and check whether it is VWD issue. Sometimes corrupted project settings can cause problems. These are project specific.

Hi Angie, thanks for the reply!

I tried creating a new web project, and no problem there. I should mention that I have other projects (non-Web), none of which have this problem. I tried opening another Web project I have (the "dev site" version of this same website project) and it has the exact same problem. However in VWDE 2012, this problem doesn't happen at all. The Web project is running on IIS (as opposed to a local machine webserver/IIS). I checked all the project settings, and they all appear the same between 2012 & 2013.

I think I see the problem. I downloaded the TechNet Process Monitor from MS's site, and it appears that VWDE is going through every single folder on my IIS website and copying the files to a cache on my local drive.I don't need it to do this--does anyone know how I can turn this "feature" off?

    Thanks!

    Hi Will

IIS Caching is required to prevent the web server from having to re-serve certain files to the IE Client when the file has not changed. In other words, files such as Images do not change on a day-to-day basis and once they are sent to the IE client they should not be sent again each time the client requests the file. The local IE client should keep a local cache copy of the file and use the local file instead.

This article gives detailed information to use IIS caching:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms690473(v=vs.90).aspx

    hope it helps,

    Regards

Hi Angie, I think we got our lines crossed here--I was actually referring to the IDE (Integrated Development Environment, aka, VWDE), not IE (Internet Explorer)...

I am experiencing the same problem. Did not have this problem with the 2012 version. Did you ever find a solution?

Unfortunately, no. My only "solution" has been to keep using VWDE2012. Unless and until someone looks into it a bit more and presents a fix, that's pretty much what I'm stuck with. But hey, if it ain't broke, right? Wink

    Thanks for your feedback.

According to your description above, your project works fine in VWD 2012, but doesn't in VWD 2013, and there isn't anything wrong with your VWD 2013. I think this issue is project specific.

Since I can't reproduce your issue on my side, you can provide me with your scenario below or report it in this site. http://connect.microsoft.com/.

    Best regards

Hi Angie, thank you very much for the reply!

My project is an ASP.NET 4 website, hosted on IIS6. VS2012 doesn't appear to have issues with it, nor does Expression Web.

The site is, however, rather large--there are lots of files (not just pages), so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. It just seems to me that VS2013 is doing *something* in the background whenever I open my website--I don't know if it is copying files from our webserver to my local cache or what... Anyway, when I get time I'll submit this via the link you provided. Thanks!
