Dbf File RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a shapefile and associated dbf file with details of US States.

How do I read the dbf file into my Windows 8 app?

Also if I try and raise this in VS2013 it throws lots of web errors

  • You'll need a third party library which supports Windows Store apps.

  • Is this an official Microsoft response?

This functionality is already available in System.Data, but this isn't available in Store apps. So why isn't something in there that allows you to deal with file types that aren't a database.

I've solved the problem by importing the dbf file into Excel and outputting it as a text file which I can read.

  • There is no in-box functionality to interpret dbf files, so if you want to read them directly you either need to use a 3rd party library or read the file and interpret the format yourself.
