  • Hi ArjunBala,

    Sorry for delay in reply.

    > > What are features in TFS that not available in Azure DevOps.

    ## Azure DevOps Services (Visual Studio Team Services/VSTS) doesn’t support integration with SQL Server Analysis to support reporting, but Azure DevOps Server (Team Foundation Server/TFS) supports.

    ## Process customization in Azure DevOps Services and Azure DevOps Server (TFS) are different, since Azure DevOps Server (TFS) 2018 and earlier versions depend on On-premises XML process model but Azure DevOps Services depend on Inheritance process model.

    ## There are also some differences between them:

    1. Azure DevOps Server scales by using deployments, project collections, and projects but Azure DevOps Services scales by using organizations and projects.

    2. With Azure DevOps Server(TFS), you connect to an intranet server (for example, https://tfs.corp.contoso.com:8080/tfs). With Azure DevOps Services, you connect over the public internet (for example, https://contoso.visualstudio.com).

    3. In Azure DevOps Server(TFS), you provide users access to deployments by adding Active Directory (AD) groups to various Azure DevOps groups, but in Azure DevOps Services, you can use a similar mechanism to provide access to groups of users and you can add Azure AD groups to Azure DevOps Services groups.

    4. In Azure DevOps Server(TFS), all use is on the honor system. To set access levels for users based on their licenses, you need to specify their access levels on the administration page. In Azure DevOps Services, you must assign an access level to each user in your organization. Azure DevOps Services validates Visual Studio subscribers as they sign in.

Please refer more from Azure DevOps Services vs. Azure DevOps Server.

Hope all above could help you.

    Best Regards,

    Tianyu

  • Hi ArjunBala,

    Thank you for the feedback.

    > > Does the above differences hold good for TFS 2012 as well?

    ## Generally, new versions of TFS will change and add some features that old version doesn’t support or not perform well. Consider of the compatibility, old versions will be able to update to new versions, and new versions will cover features in old versions as more as possible.

    ## Since TFS 2012 is an old version, it is not involved in official documents. But, the document I mentioned above has fully explained about the differences between the Server and Services. You could still refer to these differences and consider they are hold good for TFS 2012.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Tianyu
