EXE icon gone when copy and paste to desktop

    Question

  • Hi,

    Using Visual Studio 2013.

I created an application and used the Application dialog window to change the icon properties so the EXE would have a custom icon. Checked the bin directory debug folder and there was the exe with the custom icon. All good. Then I copy and paste to my desktop and the exe file has the default icon, no more custom icon(?).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks, Fred

  • Hi Fred,

I did a test for WPF and Windows App using VS2015 and VS2013 in Windows 10 and Windows 8.

But I could add the customer icon to the desktop successfully .

So I suggest you could follow the steps below and try it again:

    1. Enter the debug folder.

    2. Right click the exe file and click Create Shortcut

    3. Right click the shortcut exe then click Properties.

    4. Click change icon button, select your customer icon then click Apply then click OK button

    5. Copy the shortcut exe to the desktop

    Best Regards,
