Error while installing windows 8 "something wrong happened. Windows developer preview installation has failed"

    Question

  • Hi, I'm getting an error in the middle of the windows 8 installation. When the installation is in progress (like 30%) it pops up with an error "something wrong happened". I tried the installation from my hard disk, and virtual hard disk also. My specs are:

Type: Laptop (Dell XPS 14 L401X)

    Intel core i7 740QM

    4GB DDR3

    500GB 7200RPM

    2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M

    Please help me. Thanks.

  • Check the SHA1 Hash of the downloaded ISO and if they are not the same, download the ISO again with a Downloadmanager like this:

    http://freedownloadmanager.org/

Windows Developer Preview with developer tools English, 64-bit (x64)

    DOWNLOAD (4.8 GB)

    Sha 1 hash - 6FE9352FB59F6D0789AF35D1001BD4E4E81E42AF

Windows Developer Preview English, 64-bit (x64)

    DOWNLOAD (3.6 GB)

    Sha 1 hash – 79DBF235FD49F5C1C8F8C04E24BDE6E1D04DA1E9

Windows Developer Preview English, 32-bit (x86)

    DOWNLOAD (2.8 GB)

  • did you verify the hash of the download to verify the ISO is correct?

is your hardware trouble free?  Run a memory test and check that.

  • Hey Manikunju,

To verify the SHA-1 Hash of the .ISO download you will need to download and install your choice of hash verifier. Once you have done that you will need to use the hash verifier to check the hash of the .ISO you downloaded to check against the hash that is listed under the version you downloaded in the link below:
    Windows Developer Preview downloads

To test your RAM memory for problems:
Diagnosing memory problems on your computer

To test your hard drive for problems:
    Check a drive for errors

    Hope that helps.

  • Hey Hadij,

Please see the information provided in the answer by Andre.Ziegler above to see if the SHA-1 hash of your .ISO file matches the SHA-1 hash that is listed for the applicable version of Windows Developer Preview in the link below:

Looks like your ISO is also corrupted. But don't waste your time with the Developer Preview. On 29th February you can downlaod the Consumer Preview.
