How do I write a script to open an application properties window and attach to it? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I wrote a VBA script to check if an executable file associated with an application exists.  If it does, I want to write a script to open the properties window and gather file version and/or product version from the Details tab of the application properties window.  Please advise.  Thanks.

  • ser I can't find a way of doing this. I suspect therefore you need to either use a windows api call (complex) or write an addin to do it. Use Dir to see if file exists, but reading properties for an executable file can't be done. From an office file yes.

  • I agree with Rod. Extracting properties from the Window is complex - SendKeys etc. If the application can be referenced to the VBA program you can try if you can extract the properties.

You need not add reference to the project in compile time. You can check the presence of Application and then Add references dynamically (if the Application supports) and get the properties.

    Or

If the Application updates Registry / Environment, you can check for that too
