How to import text edit/search functionality into visual studio?

    Question

  • Hi, I want to do some thing like this from a UI based tool in VS.

    1. User browses and selects a text/log file.

    2. Upon selecting, I need to search for a regular expression in that file and display all the lines which satisfy regular expression.

I am not sure of the APIs used. I am using VS 2012. Can someone kindly help?

    Thanks in advance,

    Vijay.

  • Hi Vijay,

In Visual Studio 2012, we can search content in files through regular expression. Please try with following steps.

    1. Open the file that you want to search in Visual Studio. Please make sure this file can be opened by Visual Studio first.
    2. Press Ctrl+Shift+F to open the "Find and Replace" window.
    3. Expand the "Find options" section on that windows and check the "Use Regular Expression" option.
    4. Type the regular expression in the "Find what" text box on top of this window.

    Best Regards,
