.Net SqlClient Data Provider Timeout expired RRS feed

  • Question

We have a database SQL Server 2005 developer ed.  For one table we are seeing error message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. Error source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider

This is a small table, only about 40 rows.  All other tables in the database work just fine.

How can I tell what is wrong with this table?

When I run a simple select query on it using query analyzer I get suspended, blocked by process id -2.  This process is not showing though.

When I use open table in SSMS I get the time out error message and  partial table results.

    Thanks for any ideas.

  • Try using the WITH(NOLOCK) query hint.  it sounds as if there is a lock on the table that is blocking some of the reults.

If you get a result set then there is a lock and you will need to research this through activity monitot or DMV to locate the specific lock.
