Windows 8 SDK Standalone Installer

    Question

  • Please can someone tell me where and how I can download the Windows 8 SDK for offline install. The online installer is a bit frustrating if you have to download it for 3 machines. I am also sitting behind a proxy, a situation which the online installer doesn't seem to consider. Thank you.

  • When you download the Windows SDK from here, you should see a second option to download for install on another computer (offline). Once complete, you can use that folder (there is a subdirectory, Installers created with the selected packages you would need as well) from that location offline.

  • Not sure why the proxy would be a big deal, let me know if it is a show stopper.

Anyways, here is the snip to build offline layout with less GUI.  Unfortunately there is no standalone ISO download, you are forced to install netfx4 and use the stub sdksetup.exe to get the files.

    sdksetup /quiet /layout C:\Temp\ADK

  • Sorry to hear there is no Standalone, at work the firewall is blocking it.

  • A little frustrating. Eventually did work for me but had to babysit the download - it prompted me about 6 times that it couldn't locate the Metro SDK on the web and to check my internet connection. Hoping the download actually succeeded but you sort of get worried when a download required user intervention like that.

No-one at MS or otherwise should recommend going to an uncertified distribution source such as a miscellaneous torrent site.

  • We use a script based proxy and the installer doesn't cater for me to enter the credentials anywhere.

Ok didn't know what the protocol was for posting uncertified sources. Just wanted to indicate to people who viewed the thread not to follow the directions of that post. In that case it was the "or otherwise" part and not MS certified or recommended.
