Can I open a new window popped up on the top of the word app, not within the task pane? RRS feed

  • I am creating a word app(Apps for Office, a webpage based addin using Office.js). It is a task pane sitting on the right side of the word application.

    I wonder if I can open a new window which can pop up on top of the word app, not only within the task pane area like a modal nor a new browser window?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    It depends on how you open the new windows. It works well when we use the default Windows.Open or HTML hyperlink to open a new window.

    Yes, this is by design for the security. The Office application need to secury the app by host this progress in the taskpane, more detail about this topic you can refer to link below:

    Yes, It can open in a new browser's window. The problem of this is that it is outside of word app so that will lose the context of it and then can not interact with the word content.
