Silent Install vjredist.exe In Azure web role RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to install the Visual J# 2.0 libraries into a web role using a command in a Startup.cmd. I have the following in the startup cmd.

    %windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd set config -section:applicationPools -applicationPoolDefaults.enable32BitAppOnWin64:true

    sc config wuauserv start= demand

    wusa.exe "Windows6.0-KB974405-x64.msu" /quiet /norestart

    sc config wuauserv start= disabled

    vjredist.exe /q:a /c:"inst.exe /l /q"

    exit /b 0

Second last line is what I think should be installing the vjredist, but this is not working.

Any ideas how to do this, it is not working. I have to install manually which is not any use in the long run.

    Thanks

    Eamonn

  • Hi Rahul,

    I installed
Microsoft Visual J#® 2.0 Redistributable Package – Second Edition (x64) on
my local machine and packaged following dlls from Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727 directory. This worked fine  on Windows Azure.

    -
    vjscor.dll

    -
    vjslib.dll

    -
    vjslibcw.dll

    -
    vjsnativ.dll

    -
    vjsvwaux.dll

I assume packaging above dlls does not violate license terms of Microsoft Visual J#® 2.0 Redistributables.

    regards,

  • vjredist.exe /q:a /c:"inst.exe /l /q"

The command above is incorrect. inst.exe should be install.exe as below:

    vjredist.exe /q:a /c:"install.exe /q"

  • Does the script work in you local environment? Or a local Windows Server 2008 SP2 VM?

  • Could someone from Microsoft take this up please? Is there a silent install for Visual J# 2.0?

    Thanks

  • if you can get msi for visual j# then its easier.

msi file will be included in the .exe file that you have for visual j#. You can either extract this exe file using 7-zip or  you can run the exe and then wait for a while, go to your temp folder and search/browse for the file jsredist.msi or vjredist.msi, then you can run following command from with your startup task for silent install :

    msiexec /i jsredist.msi /qn /norestart
