Add secondary approver to OfficeTask RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I am using SampleProposal2 in SDK sample. Is there a way to add an additional approver and resend the e-mail (to both original and second) after a day or so . I tried a DelayActivity in TaskPending, but it doesn't seem to work. onTaskExpired will be too late. Is there a way to handle this, without recreating the task ?

  • Hello Chris,

I would try to write a SQL query which pulls the Task information waiting for the approval (Task Name, Status Manager email, Status of the Task, created date) based on the data, I can create a SQL job which uses a SQL mail to send the reminder emails for the status Manager but I am not sure if you can resend same email or you can check the sql mail logs to find of the email is sent already on a day , use the same on new email.

    Does that help?

  • Are emails sent through SQL Server for project server ? Would like a workflow solution e.g. (DelayActivity in OnTaskPending, between two emails), but i'll give it some thought.

  • Yes, SQL server is capable to send the email if you configure the database email with correct SMTP details, If you write a SQL procedure which gets all desired data to find the Task information waiting for the approval by querying the reporting database (schema is well documented to find the relation of tables), use the procedure in SQL Job which uses SP_Senddbmail (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms190307.aspx). You will need to configure the database mail in SQL server (http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2008/08/23/sql-server-2008-configure-database-mail-send-email-from-sql-database/).

Also, Just to give you idea, In my previous assignment, had implemented a Send email Workflow which queries the Reporting database to find all desired  information & used the workflow dll in windows schedular to send email on a scheduled time.
