Assigning Resources to a task RRS feed

  • Question

  • Say, I have two resources Res_A & Res_B. And say, I have a task, Tsk_A which can be accomplished by either Res_A or Res_B.  How can I specify such an assignment of resource in Project?

When I try to use the current functionality  (drop down under the Resources Name in the Gantt Chart), Project will assume that both Res_A and Res_B are required to do the job.  However, I want to select only one of the resource, ideally, whoever is available first.

  • POY1 --

There is no way to apply an "or" assignment with two different resources in Microsoft Project.  The best you can do assign a generic resource to the task and then later replace the generic resource with the human resource that will do the work.  Alternately, you could assign both resources to the task, and then later delete the one who will not do the task.  Hope this helps.
